Everyone should have an up-to-date Will

It’s about setting your intentions for the future and making sure your estate goes exactly where you want it to.

Gifts given in a Will can take different forms, including:

• a residue of the estate after your family and other beneficiaries have been provided for
• a percentage of the value of your estate
• a specified amount of money or property

When making your Will

It's important to see your solicitor, to make sure that your wishes are clearly expressed, and legally binding.

To include a gift to MCM in an existing Will, you can simply add an extra clause known as a codicil.

Your solicitor can check that the codicil fulfils all legal requirements and does not contradict other clauses.

While there are a variety of possible clauses, the following is the one most used for a general gift:

I (insert your full name) give Melbourne City Mission ABN 56 161 846 149 (insert details of gift e.g. the sum of $xxx/percentage/whole estate/residue of my estate) to be used for its general purposes and the receipt of the Chief Executive Officer at Melbourne City Mission shall be deemed proof of payment.

You can also choose to direct your gift to one of our specific services

If so, you can use the wording above but specify this service after the words ‘Melbourne City Mission’.

For example: Melbourne City Mission, Homelessness, ABN 56 161 846 149
