Victoria will fast-track a once in a generation construction blitz of thousands of social houses giving hope to those trapped in a vicious cycle of homelessness and poverty.
The Victorian Government has announced an investment of a $5.3 billion social housing package that will create 12,000 new homes over the next four years.
MCM Chief Executive Officer, Vicki Sutton says the investment comes at a time of great need.
“MCM welcomes the State Government’s game-changing stimulus to deliver new homes for some of the State’s most at-risk of long-term and entrenched homelessness and poverty.
“Victoria was experiencing a housing and homelessness crisis long before the pandemic began, but the size of this investment is a strong step toward solving this crisis while simultaneously helping the state recover from the longest coronavirus shutdowns in the country.
“This investment will unblock bottlenecks to ensure more people can move out of homelessness, where they are currently stuck due to the lack of affordable housing options,” Ms Sutton said.
